Image of Daniel McCarthy - presidential chairPresidential chair and lectern

We do not sit at the eucharistic table. Rather we sit to listen to the Word of God. This chapel was rearranged so that the sisters’ chairs face one another in an antiphonal arrangement. The lectern was placed between the sisters’ seating and the seating for their guests in the foreground. The presidential chair sits opposite the lectern so that the presider may listen to the Word of God and receive the ministry of others. Together the lectern and presidential chair act as a hinge-pin in the assembly, and the whole liturgy of the word is celebrated in the nave, the eucharistic rite at the altar. Ths ministers are not vested because this image was posed, and taken outside of an actual liturgy. Mater Ecclesiae Congregation Chapel, near Rugby, England.
